The King himself has returned to Vegas, and this time in a Cirque du Soleil spectacular. The famed French production company has put their twist on Elvis’ music in the newly opened “Viva Elvis” at Aria Resort & Casino.
The brand-new show features dancing, acrobatics and live music all centered on the image of Elvis Presley. This one-of-a-kind tribute show is unlike another production on the Las Vegas Strip and a must-see for any and all Elvis Presley fans.
Seventy-seven cast members make up the performance of “Viva Elvis,” each as talented as the next. This also includes nine musicians and four female singers – the only vocals to compliment that of the King himself. His voice What sets this show apart from other famed Cirque du Soleil productions is that although they all feature live bands; “Viva Elvis” musicians are prominently displayed and incorporated into the performance.
“Viva Elvis” also drifts away from the standard Cirque du Soleil performance by focusing more on the music and less on the acrobatics. While impressive stunts are still performed by Olympic athletes and gymnasts, it’s not to the extent as other shows like “O” and “KA.” The show plays out more like a Broadway musical than the standard Cirque show.
Costume designers have gone all out to create timely costumes that correspond with Elvis’ life. Over twenty people spent hours laboriously researching the wardrobe of ‘50s and ‘60s America to create authentic costumes for the cast – nearly 340 different looks! The most impressive pieces in the collection are dresses for the women that look like they’re made out of envelopes. Each “envelope” is addressed using actual samples of letters that Elvis had sent while serving in the Army.
Audiences will be delighted as moments in Elvis’ life are played out on stage, coupled with theatrical renditions of his top hits, that creates an unbeatable experience. Whether a fan of the original “Blue Suede Shoes” or a newcomer to Elvis’ music, this show will appeal to all with its classic numbers and fantastic sets.
Shows run at the Aria Resort and Casino Friday through Tuesday at 7pm and 9:30pm. The show is most suitable for children over 5 and those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. "Viva Elvis" is a 90-minute show and doors open approximately 40 minutes before the show starts.
