Lake Mead National Recreation Area
This man made Lake is beautiful all on its own, but earns even more respect when you learn that it was formed by the building of the famous Hoover Dam. It is in fact the larges man-made lake in the U.S. being made up of approximately 28, 537,000 acre-feet of water that helps support Las Vegas and much of Southern California. On the other side of the lake flows the Colorado River as it exits the Grand Canyon.
Lake Meadis a recreation destination for boaters, fisherman, swimmers and others who enjoy being outdoors. Beautiful red cliffs surround this giagantic lake. It has many coves with sandy beaches and others with rocky cliffs and provides endless exploration by boat or kayak. If the water level drops you might even be able to explore some islands. If you enjoy being out in the water, then Lake Mead is a great destination.
