The skirts are big and the hair is even bigger, welcome to the Vegas version of the 1960's Tony award winning musical Hairspray.

The show tells the story of Edna Turnblad an overweight 16-year-old girl who dreams of dancing on the "Corny Collins Show" as well as getting the school hunk, Link. Unknown to her, a school rival and her mother are bound and determined to make sure that Edna's dreams go unrealized. Edna proves to be too resourceful though as she not only finds her way onto the show, but she manages to capture the heart of Link as well.

While the show comes across as humorous and light-hearted, it serves a bigger message as Edna's true goal is to integrate the dance show and allow black dancers to appear on a daily basis instead of just once a month. The show teaches its audience how important it is to be proud of who they are, regardless of size or color.

The cast of 36 is currently being headline by Harvey Fierstein as Edna Turnblad. Just one note to Fierstein fans, you may want to get to the show fairly quickly as show producers have said the lead role will be rotated every three or four months.

The Luxor Hotel is pulling out all the stops for the hit show as it has expanded the seating in its theater from 1,200 to 1,550. All of this just goes to show that Vegas is showing theater buffs that you don't have to go all the way to New York just to see a quality Broadway show.
